BIO

What makes horror so damn scary? It’s a question Cody’s been asking himself ever since he was a young boy and he saw a clown murdered at his fifth birthday party. Okay, that last part didn’t really happen, but what a twist huh?  Horror is all about the distortion of what is expected, it is terrifying commentary on the darkest aspects of the human condition. Maybe that’s why a kid who grew up in a small town outside of Syracuse NY, surrounded by nothing but peaceful cornfields, sought to explore stories that are better off relegated to nightmares. Cody discovered that horror is therapy you don’t need insurance for. He strives to incorporate that belief into his own writing. His horror script “The Obsidian Caravan” is the tale of a strongman who makes a Faustian bargain to ensnare a forbidden love, but at its core it is a story critiquing the rigors of male body image. The short film Melanie, which Cody co-wrote, speaks to the necessity of friendship in early childhood and the sinister elements of a soul that can fester without. Cody believes that what scares a person says more about who they are than a sea of autobiographies.

Cody is a graduate of Boston University’s MFA screenwriting program and will be pursuing his MFA in Creative Producing at Columbia University in the fall of 2021. He has been published in a number of different literary journals and while he primarily considers himself a screenwriter, his work in fiction is always attended to. He has worked with directors such as Howard McCain and has had the television series “Night Terrors” in various stages of development at the streaming service Shudder.
